The Ponant islands, the island of Seven sleeps or islands of Sein
“This country and its inhabitants must have struck the imagination of men at all times. The Greeks and Romans placed there the remains of the cult of the Druids, the island of Sayne and its virgins, the barge which passed through Albion, the souls of the dead in the midst of storms and whirlwinds of fire ..." François René de Chateaubriand
A post on Carnac in Brittany had already been published on our site. But had he revealed everything to us? Pomponius Mela in the 1st Century AD would have written about it. According to the myth, the island of Sein was famous by the oracle of a Gallic deity. Its priestesses were sanctified by the vow of perpetual virginity, nine in number, the Gauls called them Last Supper. They thought that thanks to their exceptional powers, they could unleash the waves, metamorphose in their guise into all kinds of animals, but also cure diseases recognized as incurable. But these priestesses would exercise their arts only in favor of navigators. We therefore decided to embark at the Port of Camaret, in a shuttle that connects the islands, and we let ourselves be rocked by the waves of mythical legends. We perceive the famous semaphore at the Pointe du Toulinguet, then Enez Sun (Ile de Sein in Breton) the ancients also call it "the island of the Seven Sommeils" from Celtic Seiz and Hun, and which would seem to have a link with the story of the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus, but that is yet another story. We stop at the restaurant facing the sea "The Tatoon", to taste a seafood platter, we continue to listen to the legends that surrounded this island, while savoring our coffee. We decide to go to the big lighthouse, to the north by the road of the same name. We take the shuttle back at the end of the afternoon. Satisfied or almost with the sweetness and the salty air of the Ile de Sein.
Take care of yourself !

Getaway in the city of Carcassonne
To end the week of our beautiful walks in France, we suggest a getaway in the Aude to the City of Carcassonne, classified since 1997 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Imposing monument, with these four gates, the Aude gate to the west, it faces the river: the Aude. It has also been used for filming films such as Visitors, or Le Corniaud. Do not miss the evening walk, take the rue des Calquière towards the Pont Vieux, you will have the Pont Vieux in the Center and the City in the background, the arches are illuminated by spotlights, the colors of which change, from there you will have a point of view of the magnificent illuminated city. The Health Pass is compulsory for visits to the Château and Remparts, but nothing prevents you from visiting the alleys of the City, filled with history. In the evening, take a seat in a restaurant that we particularly appreciate in the City, “Le bar à vins”, the food is plentiful and of course the wines excellent! The place is very popular, so be patient because the service is a bit long;). Happy back to school everyone, always take care of yourself!

Immediat boarding !
Our favorite this week, the “Train des Mouettes” steam train cruising at 30 km / h from Saujon to La Tremblade in Charente Maritime, an atypical route, hair in the wind. The best, you choose a theme, "on the way to the market", to do your shopping at the La Tremblade market "Le train des Loupiottes" night walk to discover Mornac-sur-Seudre and its night market every Thursday evening from the 15th July to August 26, "the Heritage Days train" on the occasion of the European Heritage Days on September 18 & 19, 2021, do not miss on Sunday September 19 the musical stopover with the OVHS Jazz Orchestra will be present in Chaillevette to liven up your stopover.

Discover the medieval city of Sarlat La Canéda
COVID 19: At the time and date when we publish this post, the health pass is not mandatory on this tour and for the activities suggested in this post. Check with Domaine de Rochebois for health measures.
Our favorite this week, Sarlat La Canéda in the Perigord Noir, will enchant you. Alleys and mansions from the 15th and 16th centuries, full of history and secrets await you. Downtown. We recommend the guided tour, rather than solo. Want to discover the medieval cities, along the water, then, 11 km from Sarlat La Canéda, embark on a canoe in Vitrac, you will go up the peaceful river, and contemplate at your own pace, the wonderful, soothing landscape (especially if you come from the capital;))
Treat yourself to an unusual stopover, at the Domaine de Rochebois, the refinement and calm of a 19th century residence, located 5 km from Sarlat, with swimming pool, it offers views of the magnificent park.

Where to go in autumn 2021?
The island of Cyprus, located in the Mediterranean, has become, in recent years, an essential place, both for its historical riches and for its incredible diversity; modernity and antiquity coexist brilliantly. My favorite ? Paphos, a seaside resort, also, a high place of archaeological riches registered with Unesco. For me, October remains an ideal month to go there, the climate is mild and the sea temperature is moderate. To stay, the Valentino's Apartment is ideally located, the accommodation is spacious, the welcome warm, close to transport and amenities, but also to the Archaeological Museum of Paphos. You will be 20 minutes from the beach, and not far, the archaeological sites: Roman Odeon, Paphos Mosaïcs. The Tombs of the Kings are to the east of Paphos. If you want to go for a walk on Aphrodite beach, it is about 27 km away, in Petra Tou Romiou, the sea is magnificent there, and the water crystal clear! Be careful because Valentino's Apartment in Paphos is very popular, book now! Travel and COVID 19: Cyprus is currently located in the green on the classification map, as of 07/30/21. Negative PCR test 72 hours before departure, then a second on arrival with isolation pending the result. My advice for a successful trip and limit stress on the spot, by (my recent bad) experiences: find out before leaving about the health rules in force when entering the country, and any changes. In other words, anticipate;).
